garmin started screw up on my splits on the last 3 miles.

last three miles total time was 19:49 and total time for run was

51:05. this is the same as my personal best on this run. about four weeks ago i ran it in 51:20.

i find it interesting that i can still have such a good workout but yet my mileage is so low and has been for well over 2 months. i feel like i am finding out that i can run low mileage for at least 2 to 3 months and still maintain a high fitness level. fitness for a marathon?(no) but half marathons or less i feel like my fitness is still at a pretty high level. my goal is to make each run count and not worry about mileage right now. after all my next marathon isn't until next fall.

A talented runner can run a semi-decent half off really goofy training. However, in the marathon, this really starts to bite. People that would otherwise not have a shot at touching you beat you by half an hour or more. The reason we think 2:30 is good, and 2:20 is really really good is that most people do not train properly for a marathon for long enough. Otherwise, there would be as many people running 2:15-2:17 as there are 15:00 5 K runners, and 2:30 would be regarded at the level of current 2:45.

point taken. i run one marathon a year. yes i would like to run faster marathons and i know that more mileage is one of the ingrediants. i'm just not willing to pay the price yet.
